7s and learning

Published by Patricia on

When I was 7 years old I decided I wanted to learn English.

When I was 17 I started teaching English with a friend, Pablo, in a room in the backyard of my house.

Life passed, and when I was around 27 I still was teaching English, but this time, at an Institute.

And I remember one day in particular when Federico, one of my students, made me realize of something.

Very simple and yet profound.

I always wanted to be a nice teacher, meaning, being nice to the students.

I never felt the need or the pride of being the “boss”, so I always tried to communicate in a kind manner. And that day was no different.

I explained the activity that I had planned for that day, what was my goal and what I expected from them.

All very nice and clear, and at the end I said something along the lines of:

–   is that ok with you ?

And that was when Federico in the most natural way possible said something like this:

  • pfff like it’s going to make a difference…

And life happened again, and here I am, at almost 47 years old, starting this space for people like Federico, who clearly realized that something was not entirely ok with formal education.
